7. White Boy Rick

Columbia Pictures

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 59% (6.0/10)

Despite reports that this biographical crime drama was pulling test screening scores in the 90s, it landed with a curious lack of fanfare at the end of the summer, bombing at the box office despite a decent "B" CinemaScore and being received indifferently by critics.

But a generic crime film White Boy Rick is not. Thanks to an impressive debut from Richie Merritt as the titular character and delicious supporting performances from Matthew McConaughey and Bel Powley, this stranger-than-fiction tale of the FBI's youngest ever informant has an unshakeable, lived-in sense of authenticity.

It doesn't feel like the definitive word on Richard Wershe Jr.'s story, but it is nevertheless a thoroughly entertaining and surprising sad film about crime, class and "justice" in America.
