6. Solo: A Star Wars Story

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 70% (6.4/10)

On paper a 70% critical approval rating for Solo certainly doesn't seem bad, but when you consider that the atrocious Star Wars: Attack of the Clones somehow scraped a 65% score, it sure does raise some eyebrows. To make matters worse, Episode II actually has a higher average score of 6.6/10. Yikes.

To be clear, few will argue that Solo is a great movie or one of the better entries into the Star Wars series, but between critics largely slapping it with whatever three star reviews and fans not even turning up to see it, you'd readily assume it was a big 'ol mess.

Given the noted production difficulties, it's surprising just how coherent and gathered Solo actually ended up being.

It's over-loaded with fan service, yes, but between Ron Howard's slick direction, the surprisingly enticing characters both new and old and that expectation-defying ending, Solo had so much more going for it than bore out by the general reception.

There's an argument to be made that nobody really needed a Han Solo origin story, sure, but accepted on its own terms, this was a totally solid effort.
