15 Most Unexpectedly Depressing Movies Of All-Time

12. Jeff, Who Lives At Home (2011)

Another entry, another comedy movie that pretended to be something that it wasn't. Jeff, Who Lives At Home has all the making of a laughter riot, of course - it has Jason Segel and Ed Helms in the leading roles, two actors renowned for their hilarious comic chops. And yet this movie - directed by Jay and Mark Duplass - will leave you feeling like sh*t. Seriously: there's no alternative way to say that. It will leave you feeling sh*tty. The plot concerns two brothers, one - played by Segel - who refuses to grow up and is plainly disturbed or weird or something, whilst the other - played by Helms - is stuck in what has to be the most average of all fictional existences and is thus depressed as a result. If that sounds like a recipe for a hilarious comedy, then... well, it just doesn't, does it? There are very few bonafide laughs in Jeff, Who Lives At Home; having seen it, you're more likely to amble home in a state of perplexed sadness to go and sit in the dark.
