15 Most WTF Movies Of 2018
9. Suspiria
Luca Guadagnino's remake of Dario Argento's 1977 horror classic is one of the most divisive yet intoxicating films of the year.
A 152-minute slow-burn horror revolving around a witch's coven concealed within a dance academy in late-1970s Berlin, Suspiria demands a ton of patience from its audience.
Guadagnino sure isn't in a hurry to tell his story and makes viewers wait (and wait) for the grisly finale, opting to slowly build tension alongside a progressively suffocating atmosphere.
The cast is terrific - especially Tilda Swinton, playing three distinct roles - the visuals wonderfully evoke the period and Thom Yorke's score is absolutely haunting, adding up to an entrancing yet undeniably self-indulgent plunge into madness.
It's easy to see why it's not for everybody, but if you can appreciate the tone and stick with Guadagnino's approach, Suspiria is really quite a fearless piece of work, and sensibly differs significantly from the iconic original.
