15 Movie Moments That Pissed Off Fans Most In 2018
8. Meryl Streep Dies - Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
Ahead of the surprisingly decent Mamma Mia! sequel's release, there was a lot of fan speculation over the fate of Meryl Streep's Donna, who was mostly absent from the film's marketing while vague lines of dialogue seemed to imply that she'd died between the movies.
As it turned out, Donna did in fact die shortly before the events of the sequel, which takes the Godfather Part II approach and uses flashbacks to flesh out Donna's story with a younger, on-the-rise actress (Lily James).
Streep, meanwhile, has a brief cameo at the end of the film, appearing in spectral form before her daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) to sing "My Love, My Life", before also showing up in the end credits rendition of "Super Trouper."
It was a baffling creative call to off the most iconic star in the movie, but director Ol Parker later confirmed that Streep wasn't interested in fronting the sequel, and only agreed to sign on when her part was whittled down to a five-minute cameo.
Surprisingly enough the sequel still worked despite her lack of presence, though it nevertheless left fans puzzled.
