15 Movie Poster Trends That Really Need To Die

2. Too Much Of Everything In One Poster

A picture can say a thousand words; and for high-intensity action thrillers it seems the marketing departments are trying to say ten thousand words in a single A2 picture frame.

2018's Robin Hood, Terminator Genisys and even the Marvel movies have presented themselves as recent offenders of this cliche. While it's not an assault on the eyes or cause for being torn down, it does present to us a unique problem in cinema, which is telling us too much about the movie in general.

Two-minute movie trailers have been the subject of dissected scrutiny from fans in an effort to piece together every clue they could find; and while we can't decipher movie posters as much, splicing sequences in the film together to create an overloaded mosaic doesn't help to relieve pressure off a movie's aesthetic.

It's like being presented with an elaborately decorated dessert at a restaurant; there's too much happening on one plate that you almost miss the substance.

Admittedly the colour coordination and Photoshop skills for these posters is something to be admired; but any graphic designer worth their salt must know that they're putting too much on a page. Or maybe they're just trying to fill in empty space?

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
