15 Movie Poster Trends That Really Need To Die
1. Pointless Teaser Posters
Teaser trailers and first look stills from a movie are a good way to hype up fans. From a marketing perspective, we can sometimes forget or lose interest in a film that's in production, so when a studio puts out marketing material that gets us salivating with excitement, it's a clever move from them.
But Teaser Posters are dumb. In reality, who are they for?
Yes, there is a good way to get people hyped without telling them too much, but often in this day and age that can resort to a black A1 image with the small text of a date and a very subtle image connected to the film. Call it classy if you will, but a question has to be raised with the design agency on what they consider to be eye-catching.
The teaser poster for Spectre was cool for maybe half an hour in the marketing office, but over time if you look at it enough, you start to wonder "who thought this was acceptable?".
In a perfect world we should do away with these kinds of marketing strategies; and maybe letting us wait for an actual complete poster shows us that good things come to those who wait.
