15 Movie Trailers You Won't Believe Were Allowed To Exist

6. So Misleading It Caused A Lawsuit - Drive

Here's a trailer so infuriating that it actually sparked a lawsuit and crowbarred open the debate about how "truthful" a trailer really needs to be from a legal perspective.

The lawsuit from a Michigan woman alleged, quite rightly (regardless of your opinion of the suit itself), that the film was marketed as a Gone in 60 Seconds-esque action film, but in reality had "very little driving."

While the woman's legal action lost most of its credibility when she went on to call the movie antisemitic, her core point still stands, that this trailer in particular suggested a gung-ho, balls-to-the-wall action flick with tons of driving and shooting.

The end result is actually a slow, dialogue-sparse art-house drama with occasional bursts of violence and, yes, a little driving.

It's incredibly cheeky that any studio would dare try to deceive audiences like this, but at least it did prompt discussion about the issue and give studios pause to consider how they market their movies.
