15 Movie Trailers You Won't Believe Were Allowed To Exist

1. Crass Manipulation - Collateral Beauty

If you watched the trailers for Collateral Beauty with plans to actually see it, which you probably didn't, you'd assume the film was about Will Smith meeting supernatural personifications manifestations of Love (Keira Knightley), Time (Jacob Latimore) and Death (Helen Mirren), who attempt to help him turn his life around.

It seems like harmless, treacly Oscar-bait, but if you actually bothered to watch the movie, this isn't the case at all. The characters of Love, Time and Death are actually actors hired by Smith's friends (Edward Norton, Kate Winslet, Michael Pena) to prove that he's mentally unstable, allowing them to proceed with the sale of their company that Smith is currently blocking.

It's as though Warner Bros. realised how cruel and insensitive the movie's true premise was in post-production, and so attempted to lure audiences in with the promise of a much sappier, nicer film. Collateral Beauty more-than-doubled its budget despite a critical panning, so sadly, it kinda worked.
