15 Movies That Made 2016 The Dumbest Year Ever

8. The Choice

On one hand, perhaps we should be grateful for the latest Nicholas Sparks adaptation, as its underwhelming box office performance led to Sparks closing down his production company, meaning that 2017 will be the first year since 2011 without one of his awful romantic dramas being adapted to the screen.

On the other hand, though, The Choice doesn't even bother to present the audience with likable characters. That we're asked to root for the love of two people who engage in undeniably scumbaggish behaviour is its real, major flaw.

On top of this, the tone is all over the place, there's an hysterically bad scene where Benjamin Walker basically coerces Teresa Palmer into marrying him, and of course, an inevitable third-act tragedy that's too maudlin to be remotely affecting. Absolutely horrible.
