The Remake: Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others) made a disappointing Hollywood debut with this terrible waste of stars Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. A dull bore that couldn't even coast on its gorgeous European scenery of the apparent sexual chemistry between its stars, this comic thriller's worst offence is that it's just so, so forgettable. That didn't stop it being somehow nominated for 3 Golden Globes and earning $278 million at the box office. The Original: Jerome Salle's 2005 directorial debut Anthony Zimmer spawned the premise which later became The Tourist, though manages to do so much more with the concept. For starters, lead actors Yvan Attal and Sophie Marceau actually have great chemistry, the plot doesn't take itself quite as seriously as The Tourist, and on the whole it just plays out as a much smarter, more enjoyable ride. Which One Is Better?: Zimmer, obviously. This one's no contest.
