15 Must-See Blumhouse Movies

3. Halloween (2018)

Sinister Ethan Hawke
Universal

After 40 years of annoying sequels, Blumhouse did a back-to-basics approach and did a direct sequel to the original film that ignored all the franchise's other movies. Did it pay off? Did it live up to the hype? Oh yes.

Halloween (2018) might be the best slasher sequel ever made. Delightfully brutal, smartly directed, unbearably tense and utterly shocking, this makes for an absolutely nail-biting watch that finally, finally makes Michael Myers truly scary again. That being said, while the film is a great horror movie it's an even better drama.

Ultimately, Halloween (2018) is not really about Michael Myers; it's a movie about PTSD and trauma and it handles these topics in a sensitive, deeply moving way. These themes are also brilliantly sold through a masterful lead performance from Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode.

After this, for perhaps the first time ever, it seems more Halloween sequels will be something to look forward to.
