15 Near Miss Villain Castings That Would Suck More Than Eisenberg's Luthor
11. Marilyn Manson - Scarecrow (Batman Begins)
Filmmaker Christopher Nolan is known for his incredibly shrewd choices as an artist, though it's hard to see what he was thinking when considering Marilyn Manson to take the part of Jonathan Crane aka Scarecrow which was eventually played so brilliantly by Cillian Murphy (and more sensible options like Christopher Eccleston and Ewan McGregor were also considered). Manson's shock-rock persona as a musician certainly gives him a unique look, but we have to remember that he's going to spend a good portion of the movie with a bag over his head, and would that really work for an artist as extroverted as Manson? Furthermore, Manson is not an actor. He may have had bit-parts here and there, but as smart as the guy comes across in interviews, his placement in the film would have come off as stunt casting and little else. Thankfully, Nolan saw sense and didn't indulge this gut feeling.
