15 Obscure Horror Films You Need To See

6. The Willies

This little-seen anthology horror had all the makings of a hit; there's star power in the form of a post The Goonies Sean Astin heading up the bill as well as a neat concept, which sees two brothers out camping try to scare each other stupid with urban tales gone wild. Sadly, the film wasn't given the recognition it deserved.

It's a shame really because the film gleefully plays out like an extended episode of Are You Afraid Of The Dark, only with a load of MDMA dropped in its Kool Aid to give it a wild and dangerous kick. This is a version of suburban America as told by hyperactive kids, where adults are monsters (Bad Apples), bullies can be turned into bugs (Flyboy) and poodles get turned into curly kale after a stint in the microwave.

Even watching the film now, the film keeps giving, with nods towards the Ghostbusters, Goonies and Weird Science giving it a fun, postmodern twist. Watch this one by torchlight, it's a must.
