15 Obscure Horror Films You Need To See
5. Switchblade Romance
Know as Haute Tension in its native France (them again), this ripspeed horror is the icing on the cake for the nearly noughties' New Extremity Movement.
With a plot that never let's up or skimps on loud terror, tranquil beginnings - pals Marie and Alex head out to stay with the latter's folks, only to be interrupted by a killer wielding, well, anything - soon turn into a blood-splattered escape across the French countryside. The end result is a twist that'll split you roughly down the middle, like it was hacked with a concrete saw. You'll either love it or loathe it.
Not surprisingly this hyper violent film has received praise and scorn in equal measure, and even though director Alexandre Aja's star waned as soon as Hollywood beckoned, following a good stab at The Hills Have Eyes (Mirrors, Piranha 3D, The Pyramid - it can only get worse), he more than made his mark with this under the radar Euro gore fest.
