15 Obscure Horror Films You Need To See
14. Man's Best Friend
Ah, the creature feature, where would we be without this snarling sub genre? If critical opinion of this entry on our list is anything to go by, it says that we'd be a lot better off, but don't let that put you off this underrated effort from writer/director John Lafia.
Utilising a tried and tested formula - lab-created monster, in this case, a Tibetan Mastiff, jumps the fence and goes on a rampage - Man's Best Friend sees said pooch laying waste to a local community with only Lance Henriksen and Ally Sheedy on his tail - last dog pun, promise.
Featuring gruesome scenes of top drawer mauling, an inspired tree climbing attack and actually impressive puppet work from now renowned effects creator, Kevin Yagher (Face/Off, A Series Of Unfortunate Events), this rises above derivative nineties genre kin, such as Carnosaur, and is a really enjoyable watch. It's better than Cujo, too.
