15 Obscure Horror Films You Need To See
13. The Refrigerator
As far as way out concepts go, The Refrigerator is up there with the best of them, this is, after all, a movie about a killer chiller, that is also a portal to hell. Inspired.
The plot makes all the right noises - young couple move into New York apartment, both start to realise the fridge left there by a previous owner has malicious intent - but it's the sheer absurdity of it all that makes this movie a must see. Despite this being his only real foray into filmmaking, helmer Nicholas Jacobs treats his subject matter with care, turning in a unique fright fest with striking special effects, all put together across a four-year production period on a reported $500,000 budget.
Little seen but regarded as something of an indie classic in horror circles, the film can only be obtained on VHS, upping it's kitsch value even more. You know where Ebay is, people.
