15 Overhyped Movies You Wish You'd Not Watched

Green Lantern was a galactic bomb for Warner Bros. It grossed just $220 million on a $200 million budget and has deservedly gone down as one of the worst superhero films of the 21st century. Though Ryan Reynolds is good in the titular role, the film's lackluster screenplay and hauntingly bad CGI rendered it a big old dud across the board.

Reynolds himself has disparaged it since, with the hilarious Deadpool 2 credits scene - Deadpool (Reynolds) goes back in time and shoots Ryan Reynolds dead before he can accept the role of Green Lantern and then says "You're welcome, Canada!" - being a clear expression of his displeasure with the final film. It's hard to blame him, really.

As such, it's funny to think back to 2011, when the film was hyped up as a huge blockbuster. The film was vigorously promoted, with the American theme park chain Six Flags even opening a couple of roller coasters to coincide with the film. Alas, instead of being the mega-hit the studio wanted the film is still, to this day, one of the most infamous superhero movie flops ever, and it's hard to see this fate as anything other than deserved.

Year in and year out, terrible movies do undeservedly well, so it's nice to see some of them facing the box office failure they deserved.
