Calling Batman: Forever a terrible film is probably a tad harsh, but it isn't exactly great. It's riddled with flaws from top to bottom, but it's worth pointing out that there were some really good castings in it too.

Val Kilmer was a worthy replacement for Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman, while Jim Carrey was... Jim Carrey as the Riddler. A case could be made for both having been mishandled in the film, but there's the curious case of Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face that deserves extra attention.

For most of the film, Jones plays Big Bad Harv' as though he were the Joker's demented little brother, and it's painful to watch. In keeping with the neon extravagance of Joel Schumacher's Batman, however, it works perfectly, and that's not even what makes his performance such a waste.

The first ten minutes of Batman: Forever are an assault on the senses, as we're treated to Two-Face holding up a bank and terrorising a helpless guard. It is chilling stuff, and showcases what Jones could have done if he hadn't spent the rest of film trying to outdo Carrey's character.
