15 Planned Horror Film Remakes That Thankfully Never Happened

1. Rosemary's Baby

Classic films do not need remaking. They are considered 'classics' for a reason. Timeless would be a better description for a lot of them. Films like Citizen Kane, The Godfather and Casablanca do not need to be 'rebooted' or 'reimagined'. If the audience is too dumb to not seek them out and appreciate them, they don't deserve a new shiny one anyway. There are few horror films that are considered genuine classics, but Rosemary's Baby is one of them. Roman Polanski's 1968 film about a pregnant woman who fears her husband has made a pact with their eccentric neighbours to use their unborn child in a human sacrifice, is a masterpiece. In March 2008 it was announced that there were plans to remake Rosemary's Baby, with Michael Bay of all people set to produce. It was depressing news, but thankfully the feelings of anxiety did't last long: in December those involved broke the news that the remake was off. Speaking to Collider, producer Andrew Form said:
We went down that road and we even talked to the best writers in town and it feels like it might not be do-able. We couldn't come up with something where it felt like it was relevant and we could add something to it other than what it was, so we're now not going to be doing that film
A Rosemary's Baby TV miniseries was shown on NBC in 2014. It was not well-received.
