15 Planned Horror Film Remakes That Thankfully Never Happened

Some things are better left dead.

Not a year seems to pass by that we aren't 'treated' to a glut of horror film remakes. Since Platinum Dunes opened the floodgates in 2003 with their average but immensely profitable remake of Tobe Hooper's classic 1974 film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Hollywood studios have been remaking every 60s, 70s and 80s film they can with the hopes of getting similar financial results. Carrie, The Evil Dead, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and Halloween are just some of the iconic films that have been made with the intention of reaching a new audience (while trying not to turn off the old one). These remakes invariably provoke the response that 'this isn't as good as the original'. Horror fans are a passionate bunch and when somebody tinkers with their favourite films there is generally outcry. Who really wants to see their favourite film taken given a cast of more aesthetically pleasing actors, CGI effects and a Nu Metal soundtrack? Very rarely does a remake get it right. Although there have been a frankly ridiculous amount of horror remakes in the last fifteen years, there could have been a lot more. There have been many horror remakes that were supposed to have come out in theatres but for whatever reason did not. Horror fans can be thankful that these projects were sent back to development hell where they belong.
