15 Popular Movies Which Were Notoriously Difficult To Produce
10. American Graffiti (1973)
American Graffiti launched the directional career of George Lucas and the film stardom of Harrison Ford but it definitely didn’t come without problems. The company was a mischievous bunch.
Just before shooting began, one vital team member was arrested for growing marijuana. When it finally came down to setting up, getting the cameras mounted onto the cars took longer than expected and filming didn’t get started until the very early morning. On the second day, a fire broke out at a nearby restaurant. Naturally, because of the fire department, it caused a huge traffic jam and therefore, another delay in filming.
Harrison Ford, Paul Le Mat and Bo Hopkins were often drunk between takes. Ford was so inebriated that he was arrested for getting involved in a bar fight as well as being kicked out of his motel. Le Mat also got rowdy with Richard Dreyfuss and threw him into a swimming pool where he got a gash to the forehead. One anonymous actor also set fire to George Lucas’ hotel room.
Surprisingly enough, the entire movie was shot in twenty-nine days, despite all the dilemmas and postponements throughout production.
