15 Potential Plot Twists That Could Ruin Upcoming Movies
5. Bucky Becomes The New Captain America - Captain America: Civil War
The Twist: If Civil War follows the plot-line that many expect it to, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) may end up assassinated at the end by Crossbones (Frank Grillo), at which point the Captain America mantle will be passed to his old buddy Bucky aka the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), kicking off a whole new arc with the character. After all, Evans already has itchy feet to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe and pick up work as a director, so it actually seems like a pretty smart way to transition actors without completely butchering the character. Why It Could Ruin The Movie: This one's all about the execution. It's a fine idea in theory and one which the comic book fans would love, but killing off and replacing a character as iconic and well-liked as Cap is a huge risk financially. If audiences don't get behind Bucky, then the character as a whole is as good as dead anyway, and regardless of Stan's performance in the part (which will surely be good), if fans call bulls*** on Cap's demise, there's not much Marvel can do damage control-wise. Hopefully it won't result in a limp finale to what has the potential to be the best MCU movie yet.
