15 Potential Plot Twists That Could Ruin Upcoming Movies

3. Thanos' Brother Starfox Is Peter Quill's Father - Guardians Of The Galaxy 2

The Twist: One of the biggest questions left lingering at the end of Guardians Of The Galaxy is Peter Quill aka Star-Lord's (Chris Pratt) parentage. Quill learns that he is only half-human, having spawned from a father of a mysterious species, but little is elaborated beyond that. Writer-director James Gunn has already confirmed that the dad angle will be explored further in the sequel, also suggesting that the movie will shift away from Quill's comic book lineage, where his father turned out to be J'son of Spartax. This has caused many to speculate that Quill's father in the movies may, in fact, be Starfox, Thanos' superhero brother, one of the Eternals of Titan and at one point also a member of The Avengers. It would be a potentially excellent way to tie Quill to both Thanos and The Avengers if executed right, even if it wouldn't exactly be faithful to the comics (though this wasn't a complaint from many about the wildly choosy first film). Why It Could Ruin The Movie: Though there won't exactly be a lot of comic book fans crying foul about Quill's lineage being altered, the question remains as to whether the movie can make casual viewers care about him being related to Thanos. Also, introducing Starfox will no doubt require a lot of explanation on its own, and may simply eat up precious screen time which could be spent quipping and, well, letting Groot do his thing. Again, this one's all about the execution. It could be great, or it could be convoluted and dis-interesting.
