8. Rocky Dies - Creed

The Prediction: What with Sylvester Stallone "accidentally" leaking a page of the movie's script ahead of time which suggested that his Rocky Balboa character was deathly ill in this movie, and the emotional impact this would have on audiences (not to mention the closure it would bring to the character), it seemed set in stone that the beloved boxer would succumb to cancer while training young Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan). I mean, just look at him in this screengrab from the trailer. What Actually Happened: Rocky is diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma half-way through the film and initially opts not to seek treatment, having seen what it did to his late wife Adrian. At Adonis' repeated insistence, however, he ultimately decides to embrace life, and in the movie's final scene, is seen climbing the iconic Rocky Steps with his protegee. Sure, he's not in a terrific state of health at the end of the film, but it's implied that he's on the road to recovery and will be around for a long time yet. And fans the world over breathed a huge sigh of relief.
