15 Reasons Jurassic World Was Absolutely Perfect
1. It's Actually About Something
Spielberg's original movie had a lot of ideas going on, namely the concept of man arrogantly thinking he can control nature and capitalism turning something beautiful into a product. But the sequels didn't add much else. They just repeated what the first movie already said.
Jurassic World follows through with the themes of the franchise, but it also has enough new ideas to feel like it adds something of value. Namely, this film is about people being initially wowed by something, only to immediately take it for granted and not care anymore. There's a great scene where Zach is talking on his cell phone with his back turned to a freaking majestic dinosaur. That's not because he's a terrible, spoiled person. It's just that everyone's gotten used to this, when sometimes they need a reminder that it's something incredibly beautiful that should constantly be appreciated.
The movie is also sort of a comment on summer blockbusters, with the corporate powers that be mandating that everything be bigger and better. Jurassic World presents that through the D-Rex but also rejects the whole concept, with Chris Pratt here to take us back to the basics, and back to the majesty that audiences fell in love with 22 years ago.
And so they did it. They really, truly found a way to recapture the magic. Welcome back to Jurassic Park.
