14. Texas Chainsaw 3D

The Thing 2011
Lionsgate

Everyone's favourite chainsaw wielding Texan returned to theaters in 2013, muddying up the timeline by ignoring The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 had ever happened (!) and picking up exactly where the events of the original film left off. This belated sequel posits a secret Sawyer sibling, returning to Texas for her family inheritance...

Not a bad setup, but the execution is fumbled in the worst Texas Chainsaw movie since The Next Generation, saddled with bad actors (yes, including you, Bill Moseley), all-over-the-place characterisation, a fatal attempt to make Leatherface sympathetic, and, most unforgivably, trying to pretend The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 never happened. For shame.

With that, the franchise was once again stalled. It will pick up again with Alexandre Bustillo and Julian Maury's Leatherface prequel (coming from good stock, at least). While you wait, watch The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 or Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, instead. Both very underrated, and actually have the word 'massacre' in the title.
