15 Recent Performances That Were Criminally Underrated
5. Kevin Garnett In Uncut Gems
Kevin Garnett, or "KG" as he's frequently called in the film, is one of those rare cases where a person portrays themselves and delivers a shocking amount of depth. He's not just here for the audience to point and exclaim when they see a face they recognize. He's a genuine character.
In his first time acting, Garnett displays an amazing talent that nobody would have expected him to already have. He's not afraid to portray himself as a bit of a jerk at all, which requires a level of humility a lot of celebrities probably wouldn't have. This is something that also applies to The Weeknd's performance in the film, but his appearance is brief, while Garnett is one of the most important characters in the entire story.
In the moment when he communicates one of the film's greatest messages and shames Howard for exploiting the Ethiopian miners who sold him the stone he shows great ability and intensity. His performance throughout the film is just as transfixing as the stone is to him.
