2. Chris Rea's "Shadows Of The Big Man"
https://youtu.be/PGxL4hKht8I Now we're getting to the big guns. Tomorrow Never Dies would be David Arnold's first crack at composing a Bond score and the honour would eventually be awarded to Sheryl Crow, a mild-mannered man from Middlesbrough could have had the nod. Chris Rea, he of that hairy festive favourite, was in contention with his song, Shadows Of The Big Man. Mind you, who wasn't? Producers were keen to hear from anyone who thought they might have a song worthy of inclusion and any artist, band or group who knew what was good for them sent in a tape, pre-empting the herd mentality of X Factor auditions by some year. The list of submissions is long and well-publicised. Everyone from Pulp, The Cardigans, Space, Swan Lee to Saint Etienne, Duran Duran (never confirmed), Dott Allison, The Fixx and Marc Almond. Chris's moody drum and horn-driven track features on his album The Blue Cafe and was released a year later. Surely even 007 drives his Aston Martin home for Christmas?
