4. Hocus Pocus
For years now, an April Fool’s Day announcement poster for a Hocus Pocus sequel has gone around Auntie Social Media (the side of Facebook where nobody checks any facts) snagging people who don’t know better. The reactions usually indicate that there’s an appetite for more in this movie franchise, but the idea of a remake was probably not the top choice.
Even more surprising is Disney’s decision to make a TV movie remake with an entirely new cast and director. That’s a hell of a way to make sure people consider your project to be second class.
The original Salem-set family horror/fantasy is a delight and absolutely doesn’t need remaking, but if it helps bring a new generation of fans onto the original, then it’s not all bad.
