8. Armie Hammer As Batman

Armie Hammer might sound like a brand of toothpaste but he's actually a talented actor who seems to be making poor decisions like The Lone Ranger. Things could have been very different for Hammer if Justice League: Mortal had been made, because his first role would have been as Batman instead of guest roles in the likes of Veronica Mars. The then-20-year-old was would-be director George Miller's choice for a youthful version of Bruce Wayne after an exhaustive search, and would have acted alongside Stephen Tobolowsky's also-relatively-youthful Alfred. We don't know whether Miller and friends would have gone for the dark and gritty tone that seems to be the stock-in-trade of modern DC adaptations, but if they were planning on it, it's hard to imagine the likeable Hammer being able to pull that off. In the end Justice League: Mortal's, er, mortal blows were dealt by the writer's strike and a dispute over filming locations. With its oddball cast and the distinct possibility of it being entirely in motion capture - a la Beowulf - it's probably a good thing this movie never happened.
