15 Stupid Harry Potter Movie Mistakes You Probably Missed
3. Harry's Pointless Glasses
As mentioned in the introduction, sometimes actors are cast in roles despite being physically incompatible with the description of the character they are portraying. Never forget that the diminutive Tom Cruise played Jack Reacher not so long ago and Reacher is known to be 6'5" in height with a 50" chest measurement... convenience can be king in Hollywood.
Picking on Daniel Radcliffe for his eye colour or his hair colour is one thing, the casting director probably could have found a child with green eyes who was willing to dye their hair but evidently couldn't be bothered. It is believed that coloured contact lenses were suggested for Radcliffe but this idea was thrown out very quickly.
If we can't pick on Radcliffe for his natural features, it stands to reason that we also can't pick on him for having perfect vision... right?
Wrong! The character of Harry Potter is wholly reliant on his glasses to see and, as the name suggests, glasses have glass lenses in them to augment the wearer's vision but the film crew forgot this detail on occasion. Most notably, the closing scenes of The Chamber of Secrets feature a number of close ups on Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore... two characters who both wear glasses.
But neither pair have any lenses in their glasses and it is painfully obvious. Would it have hurt so much to put clear lenses in? Even if it meant flare on the shot, at least there would be credibility.
