15 Supporting Comic Book Movie Characters Who Stole The Show

4. Groot

Hit Girl Kick Ass
Marvel Studios

When originally committed to print back in the 1960s, Groot was a bit of a space menace – whisk forward forty years, where he's joined up with a certain troupe of intergalactic heroes and he's seen something of a transformation.

It was this version of Groot that filmgoers were greeted with upon the release of James Gunn’s Guardian’s Of The Galaxy in 2014. Brought to life expertly via CGI motion capture, Groot is about as cuddly a tree-like being as you’ll ever see. Voiced by Vin Diesel – clue: his vocabulary is limited – Groot was the heart of GOTG, a sturdy shoulder for the likes of Rocket Racoon (a near inclusion on this list) and, on many occasions, one hell of a brusier in a dust up. Come the film’s touching finale, where he plays a solemn part, there wasn’t a dry eye in many a picture houses worldwide.

Only time will tell how long Groot will reside in a plant pot come next year’s Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol 2.
