15 Terrible Movies That Actually Improve Good Ones

14. Terminator Genisys Improves Terminator

The Bad

The awfully named Terminator Genisys continues the story of Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese despite the fact that the story was actually already finished. But with time travel you have the opportunity to get blood from any proverbial stone.

The result is as terrible as watching someone literally try and get blood from a stone. Director Alan Taylor had just come off of Thor: The Dark World (oh dear), and delivers an excruciatingly convoluted and boring addition to the already lingering series.

How It Improves Terminator

The Terminator is a cat-and-mouse thriller classic that happens to have a sci-fi twist. We are introduced not only to Arnold Schwarzenegger's behemoth cyborg but Michael Biehn's sinewy soldier and Linda Hamilton's bouffant hair-styled future badass. Each one perfectly cast.

The latter two are replaced in Genisys by a bland Daenerys Targaryen and charisma vacuum Jai Courtney. That right there makes you appreciate what we had.

The main reason for Genisys further improving the already exemplary first film, rather than one of the other blathering sequels, is because Genisys makes the mistake of recreating scenes and plot lines from the first film. And direct comparison does not work favourably for it.

Not only is this shamelessly lazy, but all you will do is think back dreamily to that magical first time. Genisys abandons the horror of the first film instead going for a loud, brash crowd-pleaser and in doing so highlights how lacking it is and how fantastic has been.
