15 Terrible Movies That Actually Improve Good Ones
11. Batman V Superman Improves Captain America: Civil War
The Bad
Now, overly criticising the critically panned Batman V Superman would be pretty needless as everything that needs to be said has been said, both on this site and (many other places) elsewhere.
In a nutshell, Angry man V Sad man is a poorly written, tangled mess of a film. It doesn't even feature Batman and Superman, just two characters dressed like them. Here's hoping that the appointment of Geoff Johns will lead to a great DC movie because this certainly was not it.
How It Improves Captain America: Civil War
Thankfully we did get a great comic book movie in 2016 and it just so happened to be filled with a lot of the same themes and ideas as BvS.
Both feature super heroes teaming up and falling out all whilst expanding their respective franchises but Civil War is the example of how to do this right. Both films even feature references to a character's mother, which is integral to them fighting-slash-getting along. One works and one doesn't. Weird.
Civil War being 'fun' and BvS being 'dark' has nothing to do with it - it comes down to the fact that one was good and one was bad.
Keeping the Batman V Superman bashing to a minimum, Civil War is everything audiences wanted in a big, superhero fighting movie and every quality element emphasises all the mistakes made by DC.
