15 Terrible Scenes In Awesome Comic Book Movies

14. Father Of The Year - Man Of Steel

Secret identities are sort of a big deal for superheroes. Without one, a vigilante risks the lives of their loved ones, yet some make more effort to keep them secret than others. While Spider-Man and Batman wear masks, Superman puts a bit of gel in his hair, takes off his glasses and calls it a day, which is kind of ridiculous when you think about it. Hell, even Oliver Queen slapped on a bit of green face paint in the first season of Arrow. It turns out though that Clark Kent has never been particularly secretive regarding his abilities. When his schoolbus crashed into a river during a Man Of Steel flashback, teenage Clark risked exposure by saving his classmates from drowning. While this could have proved dangerous for the young Kryptonian in the long run, it makes sense that Supes would put the lives of others before his own... but not everyone seems to agree. Upon learning that his son is a bonafide hero, Jonathan Kent tells Clark that he shouldn't have saved the lives of his friends and classmates in case anyone discovered his powers. In other words, children should die to keep the family secret. Those looking to poke further holes in Man Of Steel because of that though would do well to remember how awful Superman III, Superman IV: The Quest For Peace and Superman Returns all were. Even if you're not a fan of Henry Cavill's debut as the Last Son Of Krypton, Man Of Steel is still one of the best Superman films released to date and therefore deserves more respect. Fun bit of trivia. If you look closely in the background of the next scene, Jonathan's father of the year award can be seen standing proud on the mantelpiece.
