Batman Begins was a colossal achievement, undoing most of the damage caused by Schumacher's take on the caped crusader and Christopher Nolan's sequel The Dark Knight is considered by many to be the pinnacle of superhero movies, thanks in part to Heath Ledger's iconic performance as The Joker. The pressure was on then for the final chapter in the trilogy and while The Dark Knight Rises received healthy reviews, some cracks began to show in Christopher and Jonathan Nolan's scriptwriting abilities. Commissioner James Gordon is one of the most capable and intelligent characters in the entire Dark Knight trilogy, a man who Batman himself trusts with his life, yet Gordon's strategic planning isn't as impressive as audiences were first led to believe. Upon learning that Bane is holed up underground in the sewers, Gordon decides that not having any sort of plan other than storming his lair would be the best course of action for everyone involved. Not only that, but Gordon, the head of Gotham's police force, decides that this lack of a plan would work best if every cop is sent down into the sewers at once... because Gotham is usually a pretty safe city and lord knows that all other crimes will be put on hold while the police do their thing. Unsurprisingly, Bane takes full advantage of this stupidity and collapses all of the exits, trapping all of the police underground. Luckily for us, none of these characters had names, so it's not a huge loss, but for the citizens of Gotham who had to deal with the hundreds of criminals left unchecked, things weren't so great.
