15 Things That Almost Completely Changed The Hobbit Trilogy
14. Ron Perlman Almost Played Beorn And Doug Jones Was Nearly Thandruil
Inevitably because Del Toro was to be included, some of his usual tricks and favoured personnel would have also played a part in some way. As well as bringing cinematographer Guillermo Navarro - a cohort from several Del Toro productions - the Mexican director apparently wanted to bring grizzly Ron Perlman in as Beorn the shape-shifting man-bear. Had Perlman been cast, the character might have got more of a role in the final film, instead of being relegated to a brief, unimportant cameo shoe-horned in for the sake of fan service. Frequent Del Toro collaborator Doug Jones - the man of many faces - was apparently up for the role of Thandruill, which would have robbed fans of one of the most favoured of the Hobbit's cast. But it would have been interesting to see the chameleon-like actor tackle the role all the same.
