15 Things In Harry Potter That Don't Make Sense
4. Why Didn't Anyone Know About The Sorting Hat?
One of the biggest aspects of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the house system. New students are sorted into Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw, based on their personalities, thus setting them on the path they will stay on for their entire stay at the school, and life beyond.
The sorting ceremony is one of the first things the students go through after arriving at Hogwarts, but before seeing the actual hat, none of the kids have a clue what to expect. Ron, despite having five brothers who attended the school before him, had no idea what was coming, and neither did Hermione, even after reading Hogwarts: A History from cover to cover.
Even if Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, and George all decided to keep this from Ron, it seems unlikely that the book detailing the school's entire history would leave out something as important as the sorting ceremony.
It can't be that those who know about it are forbidden from revealing the nature of the ceremony. Firstly, there is no reason for why this would be kept a secret, and in the final scene of Deathly Hallows Part II, Harry openly discusses the hat with Albus Severus Potter on platform 9.3/4. Why then, does no one know about the hat?
