4. Ebola Syndrome (1996) Depraved Hong Kong Category 3 fare which features Kai as the ultimate sick git - a chef who kills his boss and his boss' wife and flees from the law to South Africa. He finds work as a chef in South Africa and his boss brings him for to find a source for meat in the African bush. They stumble upon a tribe infected with Ebola. The ever delightful Kai rapes a dying woman and contracts the virus. He is very ill but miraculously survives to become an Ebola carrier. In a repeat of history, he gets into an argument with the boss and his wife. He brutally slays both of them, but not before infecting them with Ebola. He serves up their dead bodies as burgers in the restaurant - effectively spreading Ebola all over South Africa. With his boss' considerable stack of dough, Kai returns to Hong Kong and lives it up. He is also responsible for spreading Ebola to Hong Kong. The authorities figure out there is a core carrier and are quickly on to Kai as their subject. Will the revolting Kai escape from government officials or are his sick days numbered? This is an utterly outrageous film from our friends in Hong Kong. The murders committed by Kai are brutal and sick, not to mention the sheer depravity involved of the raping of a woman dying of Ebola - what opportunistic sleaze. Kai is an utterly repugnant character, yet he does possess considerable charisma and he is very watchable in a gross out way. This is due to the marvellous talents of actor Anthony Wong who gives a no holds barred performance as Kai. Unwatchable for most decent cinema fans, if you nonetheless possess a hankering after depraved Hong Kong nastiness, Ebola Syndrome is where it's at.
