15 Times The BAFTAs Corrected Huge Oscar Mistakes

8. Carey Mulligan Wins Best Actress Over Sandra Bullock - 2010

Brokeback Mountain
Sony Pictures Classics

Sandra Bullock winning Best Actress for her OK-at-best performance in The Blind Side - a very weak and problematic piece of Oscar Bait - is another one of those Oscar wins that makes you wonder if the voters were all on drugs.

Bullock is a very good actress, but the role that won her an Oscar is one of the least interesting of her career, and it's hard to think of any Oscar-winning performance from this century that was as undeserving as that one.

Luckily, the BAFTAs avoided that nonsense. Firstly, the line-up didn't include Bullock at all, and secondly, the BAFTA went to Carey Mulligan for her fantastic breakout performance in the excellent An Education. That is a truly awards-worthy performance, unlike Sandra Bullock's, and in a just world she'd have repeated that win on Oscar night. Sadly, it wasn't to be.
