15 Times The BAFTAs Corrected Huge Oscar Mistakes

9. The Lego Movie Gets Nominated For... And Wins Best Animated Film - 2015

Brokeback Mountain

This is one of the very worst animation snubs ever.

With its gorgeous animation, wonderful voice cast, heartwarming story, mind-blowing action and hysterical comedy, The Lego Movie is one of the very, very best family films of the 2010s, and it's honestly one of the most purely fun films in recent memory. It was definitely among the best animated offerings of 2014, and when it wasn't nominated, it's safe to say no-one could understand how the hell this had happened.

And this isn't a case like Tintin, where it involved a different kind of technology; this was just the Academy criminally snubbing an absolutely fantastic film, and man, did you hate to see it.

But the BAFTAs didn't just give the picture the nomination it deserved, they went one better and gave this one the win. 'Satisfying' really doesn't even cover it.

Still, The Lego Movie wasn't the only animation the Academy did dirty that year, for Disney's largely forgotten Big Hero 6 took the award over several far more acclaimed nominees. Som the voters in that field just seemed to have a bit of an off day.
