15 Totally Flawless Movie Monologues

12. I Hope - The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

It would be sacrilege to have a list about great movie monologues and not talk about the man himself, Morgan Freeman, whose voice is so powerful and recognisable it's become a cinematic staple of big speeches and poignant voiceovers.

In his most famous film, The Shawshank Redemption, he plays Red, an inmate at the titular prison who befriends the mysterious and ingenious Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins). The two become close friends over a handful of decades, until Andy escapes his cell in particularly daring fashion.

Later on, Red himself leaves the prison on parole, and after struggling to adapt to life on the outside makes the trek to find his old friend as a free man.

In the film's final moments, Freeman delivers an all-time great monologue in which he beams about the joys of true freedom, hopes for a fresh start and to see the beautiful Pacific Ocean, and final meets up with Andy on a beach, the pair of them happy and free.

"Classic" isn't strong enough a word.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
