15 Totally Flawless Movie Monologues

13. I Hate It When You're Not Around - 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Not all monologues are serious in nature. Case in point - the cult rom-com 10 Things I Hate About You, which follows the rebellious Kat (Julia Stiles) and her troubled relationships with high school newcomer Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), her sister Bianca (Larisa Oleynik) and the school's resident bad boy, Patrick (Heath Ledger).

Kat spends the movie pursued by a smitten Patrick, who's initially being paid to take her to prom by his slimly friend Joey (Andrew Keegan), who wants to date Bianca.

Antisocial and emotionally conflicted by the prospect of relationships and prom, Kat eventually finds herself falling for Patrick - until the dance, where she learns it wasn't his decision to take her.

Heartbroken, she writes the film's titular poem for class, where she lets out all of her frustrations and heartache but ends with the crushing realisation that she actually loves Patrick despite everything, leading to their reconciliation and a brilliant happy ending.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
