15 Totally Flawless Movie Monologues

7. You May Call Me... V - V For Vendetta (2005)

That Hugo Weaving is a great actor goes without saying, but the truth is he's never been better than he was in 2005's dystopian thriller V For Vendetta.

In an alternate Britain where the government is run by violent and inhumane Nordic supremacists, there comes V (Weaving), a vigilante donning a Guy Fawkes mask who wishes to overthrow the established order and install hope in the oppressed.

In the film's opening act, V saves protagonist Evey (Natalie Portman) from being assaulted, and when she asks him who he is he lets loose with a brilliantly funny, intelligent monologue that is made up entirely of words beginning with the letter V.

At once intimidating and oddly humorous in its execution, V's opening speech tells you all you need to know about the revolutionary anarchist and his single-minded purpose. It's honestly breathtaking.
