15 Traumatising Moments From Children’s Movies That Scarred You For Life

1. The Boat Ride - Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory

There's no such thing as a free trip to a chocolate factory is there? In Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory a group of strangers are allowed a look into the reclusive Wonka's secret chocolate factory. It is a family favourite but it contains some scenes that may be upsetting for younger viewers. Things get off to a bad start for the golden ticket winners when Augustus Gloop is sucked into a pipe that leads to God knows where. Seeing a fellow child getting sucked into a giant tube and disappear is pretty traumatic in itself but it's nothing compared to what happens next. The eccentric Wonka takes them on a boat ride to the other side of the factory. Once inside the tunnel, the boat ride turns into some sort of bad LSD trip. There are flashing lights everywhere, the boat is going way too fast, images of chickens being decapitated and insects entering people's noses and projected onto the tunnel walls and, worst of all, Wonka starts singing an ominous song in just about the creepiest manner possible. If the scene did anything helpful for children viewing it, it was to warn them of the dangers of trusting a man wearing a purple suit and top hat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Zail7Gdqro What other moments from children's films traumatised you when you were younger, or still traumatise you now?
