15 Truly Terrible Villainous Performances From Awesome Actors

14. Sean Bean - The Island

Malekith Dark World
Warner Bros.

Sean Bean might be a plot spoiler on legs, but he's a very impressive and talented actor who can do a villain very well. For example, in Goldeneye he's one of the very best James Bond villains ever. Therefore, his utterly sleep-inducing performance in Michael Bay's The Island makes no sense.

The Island is, to be fair, a truly terrible film and this part as Dr Merrick, a corrupt scientist who runs a compound full of clones, is underwritten and bland, but Bean surely could've done more. This is a completely zero-effort performance from him and all he does in speak in his native accent in a highly monotonous manner.

There seems to be an unwritten rule in Hollywood that every blockbuster must have a British accent, since Americans adore British accents. Sean Bean serves as the token Brit in this film and nothing more.

Before you ask, yes this does have a Sean Bean death scene but it's not a very interesting one. In general, The Island is a film you should avoid, even if you're a die-hard Sean Bean fan.
