15 Truly Terrible Villainous Performances From Awesome Actors

13. David Thewlis - Wonder Woman

Malekith Dark World

Wonder Woman is a great movie and the best film on this list, but the villains weren't great. Sadly, the talented British actor David Thewlis, in his next role after his fantastic work in Anomalisa, was roped in to play the awful main antagonist.

We all know how much Hollywood loves British villains and, in a meaningless twist, it turns out Sir Patrick Morgan (a random peace negotiator in London) is actually Ares. This was clearly just a paycheck role for Thewlis and his performance more or less comes down to an Upper-Class British accent.

Ares is a generally terrible villain. Not only is the idea of a literal Greek God in the middle of a modern superhero movie ridiculous, but Ares is just another awful blob of CGI who's overpowered yet doesn't actually feel like a legitimate threat. In such a fantastic and well-acted superhero movie Ares stuck out like a sore thumb and the writers not only failed to create a good villain, they also completely let Thewlis down.

In the future, Thewlis is probably the only person who'll regret being in Wonder Woman.
