Marvel did the unthinkable with Guardians Of The Galaxy. They took a relatively unexplored corner of the Marvel comic universe and turned it into a film arguably bigger than the Avengers. Not bigger in terms of box office takings - Marvel's flagship title pulled in a ridiculous $207 million on its opening weekend compared to Guardian's $58 million - but in terms of cultural impact Guardians Of The Galaxy came out of nowhere and took us all by surprise. So what is it about Guardians Of The Galaxy which makes it such an instant Marvel classic? A lot of it rests on the impeccable casting Parks And Recreation legend Chris Pratt is the definitive Star-Lord, but he's supported by an incredible ensemble cast, with solid performances throughout... even WWE veteran Dave Bautista delivered a memorable performance as vengeful warrior Drax. But the actors themselves can only do so much. We have to heap praise on the people behind the cameras too. In the hands of director James Gunn (Coolest Name Ever 2014 Nominee) and the rest of the creative team, these characters exploded all over the silver screen and captured our attention from start to finish.
