15 Upcoming Comic Book Movie Performances That Will Kick Ass
2. The Rock As Black Adam
The Film: Black Adam/Shazam
It's a fairly well established truth in Hollywood that The Rock adds bankability to any and every project he's attached to. He injected some much needed new life into the Fast & Furious franchise and his presence on the casts of the Jumanji sequel, the Baywatch remake and Rampage makes each of them far more essential than they'd ever be without him.
He's pretty much a walking tower of charisma, and it was only a matter of time before either DC or Marvel hired him for a tentpole comic book movie. In the end, it was Warner Bros who pulled the trigger first, hiring the former WWE star to play anti-hero Black Adam, who is set to appear in at least Shazam! and his own solo movie, with hints he'll turn up elsewhere.
Johnson immediately elevates the character - who is already interesting in his own right - and the prospect of him facing off with some of the DCEU's established heroes is particularly mouth-watering. And best of all, the anti-hero status should mean we'll get to see The Rock flirting with more adult performance than he's played so far.
